First came the cars. Then came an idea: to build an automobile touring-route that stretched from New Buffalo to Mackinaw City. They called the idea "the West Michigan Pike," and as it grew, West Michigan's shoreline became what photographer Vincent J. Musi describes as "a richly layered place." In his words, "You can't sum it up easily in a series of photographs. You can't capture it, categorize it and file it away under the entry of 'been there, done that.' You must live it, you must come back." Celebrate the road, the people and the places along the West Michigan Pike!
